Book Review – Hungry Gods By Richa Lakhera

Book Review – Hungry Gods By Richa Lakhera

How can wealth and power be obtained? Can greed take you to places where you never thought of? Beaten and brutally raped, a woman’s body is never found, but her accused leave a witness they do not know of. Hungry Gods is filled with revenge and the hunger to make the guilty pay, the author weaves in characters like that of Valentine, a film superstar who amuses you with his ways of getting sexual pleasures.

Then there is Ranga who makes you cringe every time he eyes a boy or Dinesh Thackray who’s sudden death gives restless nights to Inspector Silva. Then there are Hiri and Etsie’s characters which makes you want to connect the dots leading to the murders.

I have read so many thrillers and suspense-filled books that have left me stunned and horrified at the crimes committed. But Richa Lakhera leaves them all behind with her raw, thrilling, and gruesome crimes peppered with unimaginable sex scenes.

Right from the moment when you read the first chapter to the next, each and every page is filled with revenge and brutal truth that you cannot but help wonder why would they behave in a certain manner. Underlined and the reason behind the revenge is a pharmaceutical company by the name of Medici which also reveals the ugly truth that lurks in our society.

In this time and age when we keep emphasizing the fact that women should be treated equally, this book narrates the bitter truth of how a woman is treated if she fights for justice. It’s so simple to say to stay quiet and not utter a word. But that also doesn’t help; crime against women will keep doubling up. At the end of the day, someone has to pay the price no matter what.

Beautifully written and painfully etched the book takes you through several revengeful twists and turns that leave you shocked and horrified at what lengths a person can go to attain wealth, power, and not forget drugs. Surprisingly the sex scenes do not make you feel as if you are reading an erotica or soft porn. Rather it plays an inevitable part which is described subtly yet is unsettling.

I enjoyed the book and its difficult to put it down, it grips you from chapter one. Read it for the thrills and its brutality. I guarantee you it will be hard to put it down!
