Meet our Winningstree of the week, Purnima Bahuguna, who is an inspiration to all who are fighting against cancer or any deadly disease for the matter.
I happened to catch up with Purnima and this is what she had to say about her journey on the World Cancer Day.
1.Who are you and how are you into what you do?
I am a Naturopath and I design and manufacture herbal supplements, natural perfumes, skin care, hair care and other personal care products which are 100% natural and free from synthetic and chemical contents.
Am in this world of natural care as I feel am the chosen one to help people come closer to nature and its blessings.
2.Tell us about your journey from being affected with cancer to recovery and finally becoming an entrepreneur…
Ans: The journey has been very enriching. When life tried to give me lemons, I made new Purnima out of it 😊
In the year 2006 I conceived. Was very happy when suddenly I got fever and started losing weight. Went for my checkups and realized I had an extra mass developing in my uterus. It was termed ‘Fibroid’ by my Gynae. I had heard that term for the first time in my life. So ‘Googling’ started. Too many results and parallelly my fever was constantly there and I used to feel very weak.
In the weekly scans it was caught that the tumor was growing bigger exponentially along with the pregnancy. My unborn babies who were yet to see the light of the world couldn’t fight the tumor longer and died inside sadly in the 10th week. And the tumor had grown from 1 cm to 14 cm in these 10 weeks. I didn’t understand whether to feel sad or alarmed! From trying to save my babies I shifted on trying to save myself!
The fever refused to go and I was turning extremely weak and underweight due to it. The doctors started suspecting the tumor to be malignant. None of whom were ready to touch the case as I could have lost my reproductive organ and never could’ve become a mother. Even the biopsy was halted for 3 months because I had to be operated for taking out the dead fetuses. So, the only option left was to wait.
But I was not ready to wait at all in that condition. In my quest to turn back into my normal healthier self I started exploring Homeopathy as Allopathy didn’t help at all owing to my constantly failing health. But couldn’t get much help from Homeo too. That’s when I switched to naturopathy and started doing Yoga. I started eating a raw, sprouted diet with lot of Ayurvedic herbs and herbal waters. My fever was gone within 2 weeks of starting all this. I started gaining weight. The tumor growth stopped at 16cms. I could feel strength in my legs again. And within 9 months I was hale and hearty again with renewed energy.
Biopsy of my tumor at the 3rd month had suggested malignancy but I refused to undergo any treatment through Allopathy. I was convinced that I was on right track of Naturopathy as I could see results. One year of all this and my tests revealed no cancerous cell. All reports were clean. But the growth was still inside so it was operated out and I was free from it forever.
I owed my life to Naturopathy and Ayurveda. I decided to learn more of it and started studying Charak Sanhita, Kashyap Sanhita, Ashtang Hridyam SootraSthanam. As I know the Sanskrit language, I didn’t face any translation issue too. Deeper dive and I was more convinced with the fact that ‘Living in harmony with the nature is the best thing to do for good health.’
I was amazed on health myths around and had decided that one day I am going to spread awareness on health and nature and in 2016 I could finally give it a shape in the form of Triaanya’s healthmantra.
3.Why did you name your venture as Triaanya and what is it all about?
Triaanya means power of three worlds: The world of Ayurveda, Naturopathy and Aromatherapy. Through my company I merge the power of these three very powerful worlds into one in the form of my products. And hence the name.
4.What is a regular day like in your life?
Every day is the same for me. 😊 Research on new ways of spreading health, making new friends, treating people of their health issues, making people’s life fragrant, making people healthy and pretty. That’s how my average day is like. Apart from all this I wear a hat of a mother and wife too. 😊 So, my days are very exciting I would say.
5.What are the things that you always carry when going out of the home?
Well, water, fruits and natural oil-based hand sanitizer.
6.How does it feel to have survived the deadly disease?
Happy. Just happy and a totally new Purnima with new beliefs and new energy.
7.What lifestyle changes would you suggest our readers to stay healthy and fit and fine?
Staying positive and leading a stress-free life is important. Starting one’s day with 2 glasses of warm water with 1-inch raw turmeric and 1-inch jaggery is the best way to start mornings. Practicing 10 minutes anulom vilom pranayam morning and night is equally important. Avoiding white sugar, junk food and processed food is a must. Have desi cow ghee 1 tsp every morning unless one has high cholesterol issue. Dinner should be taken before 7 pm. Don’t mix 2 food types ever. Fruits should never be taken with milk or grains.
8.List out the difficulties you faced when fulfilling your dreams/aspirations?
First hindrance was finding genuine sources of quality raw material as I wanted 100% natural high-quality raw materials that are free from synthetic chemicals of any form.
Second was how to penetrate the market which already had big names.
9.What makes you extraordinary?
My positivity and passion make me extraordinary. My products are extraordinary because they are personalized and customized. We never do bulk production. The products are suggested basis one’s anatomy. Best fusion of Ayurveda and Aromatherapy can be seen in our products.
10.That Winning Stree moment…
Getting awards and accolades at various entrepreneurial platforms. But the best is yet to come 😊
11.Three words you say to yourself when in front of the mirror…
Life is pretty. Let’s make it pretty for all.
12.Winning message to other women…
Never say Never. Identify your customer-base first. Then design your work around it. We should all have a vision to begin with. Get ready to dirty your hands when in business. Invest on your production and operations. Don’t spend a lot in advertisement and marketing. That’s my approach.
13. Your Favourite quote that you believe in…
“सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः । सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु मा कश्चिद्दुःखभाग्भवेत् ।“
There should be happiness all around. Happiness of good health. That’s my moto.
