Professors have always been looked up to in our country as a father figure or sometimes even compared to a godly figure. But Kanak Sarkar, the JU (Jadavpur University) professor from Kolkata has sparked outrage instead of earning respect with his slang like comments on a woman’s virginity!
A seemingly ordinary man who actually is a male chauvinist and a proud one for that! Even after so much controversy over his Facebook post all he did was take it down while defending himself and justifying his actions to the Supreme Court’s directive of Freedom of Expression on Social Media!
This man seemed concerned about boys remaining fools to opt for girls as wives who had a broken seal Under the name of counseling, he was preaching wrong things to today’s youth misleading them. He had the audacity to compare a Virgin girl to a Sealed Packet/bottle. He even questioned the youth on their choices of choosing a packet or bottle with a broken seal as unwise!
His views were totally cringeworthy and caused enough embarrassment to the woman tribe world over. If this is not demeaning to a woman then what is? The most disturbing fact is that all of this comes from a professor who guides students on subjects like Political Sociology, Human Rights and Law, and Ethnicity. It is clear now on who needs to learn human rights first!
I hope he hasn’t taught many wrong things to his students during his tenure because students at a young age are like clay and get molded as shaped and if the teacher has such disrespect towards the woman community, what more can we ever expect out of his sessions then.
Come Basant Panchami, and the entire nation especially Kolkata witnesses Saraswati Puja. The goddess of wisdom who spearheads the education department amongst gods is herself a female. She must be so ashamed of this very professor for his misogynistic views.
Talking about a girls’ most private stuff even if contributed as generic views is a shameful act! To top it he compares virgin girls as sealed, directly questioning the chastity of girls who aren’t virgin. This is so disturbing in a country where so much crime and discrimination already exist against women.
No, we aren’t buying your sexist thoughts anymore professor. To all men who have such views about women first go and prove your virginity. Why is it that only females have to give proof that they are virgins? Why would virgin status be a qualifier for women? Why are virgin women angels like?
We literally worship our professors. I remember touching the feet of my professors and teachers in school and college asking for them to bless me. But such posts kill us women and that belief as a little girl very barbarically.
Professors have a responsibility towards the community. Their viewpoints are visible in their actions which can then get easily propagated and etched in the minds of young men and women. This will only give a hard time for women and girls.
What if a girl starts believing that she is chaste when she remains a virgin until she is married? Such sexist ideas will ruin her mind in this 21st century of millennials. Sex and remaining virgin or not a virgin is a personal choice every girl can take as soon as she becomes an adult. And virginity has absolutely nothing to do with your purity or being compared to an angel.
Your deeds and actions make you a good human being and not your virginity status. I would appeal to Jadavpur University to seal this professor’s career forever and terminating his rights to being a professor ever again. We don’t need such people in the education sector. Better give his job to a more responsible person! Sorry professor you better seal your mouth first!
