Starting at a tender age in films she never looked back and reigned South Indian Movies and then Bollywood, over-shadowing her male counterparts easily! Performing roles full of meat at a time when the industry was not very open to the female actors and making the movie a huge box office success by her mere presence are achievements only she was capable of!

5 decades and a half, she was 150 films old and the most memorable of which were Mr. India, Chandni, ChaalBaaz and Sadma. Her comeback movie English Vinglish was a marvel too.  Felicitated with Padma Shri, she has also won 5 film fare awards in total.
